Pyari Onlus

Pyari Onlus wants to be a dynamic organization, ready to listen to the voices of women, children and entire communities. We will be listening to the daily reality of people living in poverty and social exclusion while caring and assisting them. Operating on this basis and maintaining a constant dialogue with the ever-changing reality, together with with Pyari Foundation India, we seek to understand the needs and expectations of the poors to propose projects aimed at changing the destiny of the ones who need most.

For those reasons, Pyari Onlus, a non profit organization, has launched a new project of distance sponsorship:

Pyari, helping to grow up
"The Pyari project, helping to grow up" is a vocational training centre that allows girls from Kolkata who live in severely disadvantaged situations to learn a profession that would help them to achieve economic independence. Through educational and professional training programs, the girls will be able to enter and fully integrate into the working world and access to microcredit. With the distance support project we guarantee to its supporters (individuals or companies), the opportunity to help a girl in Kolkata with 150 €.

These are girls aged between 12 and 18 years living mostly in slums and poor alleys in the city. They all are outcast girls, with parents suffering from leprosy or even defenseless children belonging to minority tribes migrated from rural areas, which can easily be exploited in red light districts.

Courses programmes:
The training and social integration programme provides professional courses every six months. Courses focuses on:

  • Cutting, sewing and mending
  • Embroidery
  • Knitting
  • Craft production in jute (handbags - hats - items)
  • Production of high quality articles of costume jewellery

The youngsters participating to the Pyari, helping to grow up, can choose amongst the activities that most interest them, according to their skills and aptitudes. The courses that began on November 15th, 2008 and lasts six months, are held five days a week from 10:00am to 16:00pm. The girls may reach classes by public transport and have lunch at the centre.
